Availability

The space is available throughout summer 2015, although during the back two weeks (Sunday-to-Sunday) of June, July, and August we will be hosting residents who will need to enter the building daily for locker room showers. This would be very unlikely to disrupt a renter’s activities.

The Space

This gymnasium features built-in wooden bleachers that seat at least 100, a stage with two small green rooms and very basic lighting, a large basketball court space in front of the stage, and locker rooms/showers. It has been used for film screenings, music, and dance, and would be fine for multi-vendor art/art retail. This is a “you bring your own gear” rental for short-term or short-run activities—we don’t have marley flooring for dance, a screen for films, sound system etc. But we do have a very large space.

Hourly Rental

Contact the space for rates

Daily Rental

$100 – $250 per day

We provide the building clean, you return it clean (swept, trash emptied, etc.) or otherwise pay $75 cleaning fee.

Weekly Rental

$500 – $750 per week

We provide the building clean, you return it clean (by your own hand, via referral we can give you to a local maid @ $15/hour), or pay a $100 cleaning fee. If you’re using a weekly rental during our summer residencies, our small population of overnighting residents will need access to the locker rooms daily for showers. Tent camping and kitchen use are options for a small additional fee, depending on dates.

Monthly Rental

$1000 – $2000 per month

We provide the building clean, you return it clean (by your own hand, via a maid referral we can give you) or pay a $150 cleaning fee. If you’re using a monthly rental during our summer residencies, our small population of overnighting residents will need access to the locker rooms daily for showers. Tent camping and kitchen use are options for a small additional fee, depending on dates.

Rental Requirements

We will require liability insurance; we will require that the space be returned clean (at a minimum swept, with trash emptied; for longer stays also mopped) or that the renter hire a local cleaner ($15/hour) as part of the contract or pay us a cleaning fee.

Rules & Regulations

No noise after 10pm. Load-in of props or larger equipment needs to happen via the Maple Lane (far) side of the school, with gear brought around behind the gym (driving across grass is fine). Access to the building from the other side (left) would involve driving on a neighbor’s property—we are willing to ask his permission, but cannot guarantee we’ll get it. If you plan to present a public event from the gym, we will help publicize it but the bulk of PR falls to the renter unless otherwise agreed. (Details can be worked out in contract.)

Cancellation Policy

A deposit of 50% of the fee would be required 30 days prior to the rental and is refundable up until 15 days before the rental. At 16 days before the rental half the deposit would be returned, at 7 days before the rental no fee is returned.

Mineral School (Mineral, WA)

The Building

Mineral School is a new artists residency and arts organization set in a former elementary school about 90 minutes outside of Seattle, in a small lake town (Mineral) near Mt. Rainier. We host some of our own events, but as our main initial focus is the residency program we are happy to partner with or rent space to other organizations that need overflow practice/retreat space or that want to present work. Festivals are also possible, as we’re on 5 acres. The 1947 school features a 1600-square foot combo commercial kitchen and dining/multipurpose room, five bedrooms, public bathrooms. The 7000-square foot gym (with locker rooms/showers) has been used for dance practice and performance by Seattle artists from Velocity Dance Center who workshopped with choreographer Bennyroyce Royon in 2014. We are zoned for and have acreage for overnight tent camping, and indoor sleeping potential for up to 10. Hugo House is sending its Made @ Hugo fellows on retreat here in May 2015.

Hours

Varies by season. Summer months are busiest but there is flexibility.

Parking

There is abundant on-street parking as well as space for about a dozen cars in front of the gym.

Security

We have a facility manager who does daily walk-throughs and a fire alarm system.
